‘X-Files’ Reboot Gains Momentum: Gillian Anderson Confirms Script Quality and Ryan Coogler’s Vision
After almost a decade, the world of The X-Files is being revisited. Gillian Anderson, who starred as the skeptical Dana Scully in the original series, has shared encouraging news for fans: she has read the script for the reboot and assures them it won’t disappoint. Anderson discussed the novel series during a panel at MegaCon Orlando, as reported by Collider.
Both Anderson and her longtime co-star, David Duchovny, have previously expressed openness to participating in the new series, though no official announcements regarding their involvement have been made yet. During the panel, Anderson praised Sinners director Ryan Coogler, who is spearheading the reboot, and highlighted Coogler’s endorsement from original series creator Chris Carter, who will executive produce the reboot.
“I was in Washington at a con last weekend, and I told the crowd that I’d read the script, and it was really good, and to not think disparagingly about it. It’s very different and very similar all at the same time and it’s very special. I think he’s incredibly talented, and I think he’s one of the only people who can do something unique and do it justice and he’s completely obsessed with the series. He’s one of the most talented filmmakers who’s out there. The fact that Chris has him as the person who’s going to be involved in the franchise is awesome, and a huge gift. You guys will see what he has in mind, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.”
What Else Do We Know About the ‘X-Files’ Reboot?
The series is conceived as a sequel to the original and will follow two mismatched FBI agents assigned to a long-shuttered branch of the agency dedicated to investigating unexplained and paranormal phenomena. Danielle Deadwyler, known for her role in Till and The Piano Lesson, will star as one of the agents. She will be joined by Himesh Patel (Yesterday). The project has received a pilot order from Hulu, with Coogler, fresh off a Best Original Screenplay win at the Academy Awards, writing and directing the first episode and leading the series. Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler are also producing.
Even if she doesn’t appear in The X-Files, Anderson has a busy schedule ahead. She is set to star alongside Hannah Einbinder in the LGBTQ-themed horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and with Ben Affleck in the crime thriller Animals. She will also feature in Netflix’s upcoming miniseries adaptation of The Boys From Brazil.
Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot is currently in development, and Collider reports that no release date has been announced. Stay tuned for further updates.
