Jays Beat Cardinals 3-2 – Bluebird Banter

The undefeated spring continues. The Jays filled up the bases all day, with 11 hits and six walks, plus a hit by pitch, but stranded 14 runners. Still, it was enough, as a strong performance by the pitchers held the Cardinals to just two runs on two hits and three walks.

First, the pitching side:

  • Max Sherzer had a good Blue Jays debut. He got into a little trouble early, allowing a lead-off triple to Victor Scott II in the second (who came in to score one batter later on a sac fly), but otherwise dominated. He struck out four Cardinals without issuing a walk or allowing a second hit. He was mostly 92-93mph with his fastball, but touched 94, and his other pitches (especially the change-up) looked crisp.
